engage International Summer School 2010: Crossing Boundaries

engage International Summer School is for experienced gallery educators, artists, curators and academics. This peer-led event represents a significant opportunity for colleagues at a similar stage in their careers to work together to
- Reflect on aspects of current practice in gallery education
- Review current research and political agendas
- Consider the positioning of gallery education within the cultural sector
- Learn about international contexts for gallery education
- Network with UK and international colleagues
There will be a maximum of 30 delegates at Summer School. Participation is sought from those who describe themselves as mid-career or senior (or equivalent), who are passionate about gallery education. In order to ensure a balance of participants we ask you to complete a brief application form and submit a CV.
Details of fees can be found on the Application document, which is available to download at www.engage.org. The event will be registered on the Grundtvig database - successful Summer School applicants may be eligible to apply for grant funding through Grundtvig European Visits and Exchanges Programme. Applications to attend summer school must be made by 10am on 12 April 2010.

Visual Roots: Engaging hard-to-reach young people through work-related learning

Visual Roots is an engage initiative offering visual arts venues the opportunity to develop accredited placements for vulnerable and hard-to-reach young people. This seminar will present case studies from the Photographer's Gallery, artsdepot and Orleans House Gallery and young people that took part in the programme will share their experiences. The seminar is aimed at youth leaders, educators, particularly those working in alternative education provision, artists and others working in a gallery or museum context.
This is an engage event but also open to non-engage members. An agenda will follow shortly.

Wellcome Trust Arts Awards
Deadline: Small Grants: 30 April, 30 July & 29 Oct 2010
The Wellcome Trust Arts Awards support imaginative and experimental arts projects that investigate biomedical science. All art forms are covered by the programme - dance, drama, performance arts, visual arts, music, film, craft, photography, creative writing or digital media - and the Trust invites applications for projects which engage adult audiences and/or young people.
Applicants are usually affiliated to organisations, but can apply as individuals.

Climate Change and the Visual Arts- presentations and MP3s now online
A curatorial development and networking event organised by engage and VAGA in August 2009, Climate Change and the Visual Arts offered a range of perspectives on the environmental impact of presenting contemporary visual art, from curatorial practice, gallery education, exhibition making and artist practice and allowed space to discuss whether concerns over climate change affect the sector's working practices. Children and Families briefing
The National Council for Voluntary Youth Services have published a briefing paper on the recent Family Papers by the three main political parties. The briefing paper summarises and compares the three papers, but first highlights potential issues for the voluntary and community youth sector arising from the documents.
