Save the date: engage/enquire International Conference 2011 The annual engage International Conference brings together gallery educators, artists, teachers, academics and curators from all over the world. This year engage will again collaborate with enquire to deliver the conference, which will take place in Margate, Kent from 14-16 November. Last year the Secretary of State for Education commissioned Professor Alison Wolf of King's College London to carry out an independent review of vocational education, and consider how vocational education for 14- to 19-year-olds can be improved. The resulting report has now been published. The report recommends a 20% cap on the amount of time young people spend on vocational learning: this could lead to a greater emphasis on academic courses for young people in schools and further education. A new survey aimed at curators and those working curatorially within any framework (projects, exhibitions, collections, academic, artist practice, gallery education) across the UK has been launched with the aim of investigating existing curatorial work in an international context. The survey forms a key part of the data collection for a year long research project VIRE (VAGA International Research Enquiry), that aims to support curatorial development by identifying opportunities to promote exchanges, foster partnerships and develop programmes in the future. Sector Qualifications Strategy consultation (England, Wales and NI) Public and not-for-profit organisations active in the field of youth services are invited to apply for projects promoting cooperation in the youth sector with eligible partner countries other than the neighbouring countries of the European Union (Latin America, Africa, the Caribbean, the Pacific and Asia, etc). Grants of up to £100,000 are available. 'Support and aspiration: A new approach to special educational needs and disability' was published last week and the Government has now opened the consultation on the proposals for reform it contains. 'We are more' (2010-2013) is a Europe-wide arts advocacy campaign set up by Culture Action Europe in strategic partnership with the European Cultural Foundation. It has been launched to influence the EU budget negotiations for the 2014-2020 period, which will take place over the next two years. The ultimate goal of the campaign is to contribute to a strengthened recognition of the role of arts and culture in the development of European societies. More... Heritage Grants Scheme funding of is available for projects of £1million-£5million that relate to the national, regional or local heritage of the UK. To be eligible for funding a project must: | Trusthouse Charitable Foundation The Trusthouse Charitable Foundation has announced that funding is available to local and national charities or not-for-profit organisations that address rural and urban deprivation. Within these two main headings, the Trust are interested in helping established projects which work in the fields of Community Support Arts, Education and Heritage, and Disability and Health Care. More... Tudor is an independent grant-making trust which funds organisations working across the UK. It aims to help smaller, under-resourced organisations that offer direct services and these groups do not have to be registered charities. The LankellyChase Foundation is seeking applications from registered charities to support summer playschemes for children between the ages of 5 and 17 years. In 2011 the Foundation will be supporting specific activities for children and young people living in refuges for families escaping domestic violence; or for young carers. This year the Foundation will be making approximately 120 grants of around £500, and preference will be given to applications from organisations affiliated to a relevant nationally recognised body and adhering to national standards of practice.
