engage Yorkshire Area Group Meeting
Wednesday 4 June
Live Art Space at
Ferens Art Gallery, Hull
11.00 - 14.45
This is an extended meeting, incorporating a 'practical' workshop led by artist Rachel Massey. The meeting will focus on the involvement of two of Yorkshire's galleries (The Ferens and Scarborough Art Gallery) in Engage's Envision programme and The Ferens' wider and longer term commitment to developing young audiences. As Envision draws to a close, this is an opportunity to reflect on what we have learnt from it in Yorkshire, get some practical ideas for working with young people and be creative ourselves!
Kirsten Simister, Curator at The Ferens, will talk about research and recommendations made by Audiences Yorkshire into ways of developing young audiences at The Ferens. She will talk about the Arts Ambassadors scheme, whereby university students and the gallery work in partnership to develop younger audiences through programming, interpretation and marketing. Also future plans for the Arts Ambassadors to curate an exhibition, and how involvement in Envision and working with very hard to reach young people can be built on. There is also opportunity to see the family friendly exhibition 'Heroes & Villains'.
Rachel Massey, Freelance artist and Envision National Coordinator
Rachel worked as lead artist on Scarborough Art Gallery's Envision project before taking over from Jo Wheeler as Envision National Coordinator for the final months of the project. She'll give a context for Envision nationally and also lead a practical workshop looking at creative ways of engaging young people in interpretation and responding to art works, based on work done at Scarborough Art Gallery.
Lara Goodband, Curator at Scarborough Art Gallery
Lara will talk about her involvement in Envision and the project's impact on the Gallery.
