Artists & artist-educators
"engage values the voice and knowledge of the freelancer; I feel respected for my work and for the insight I offer to engage"
Freelance artist-educator member
Membership of engage means artists or artist-educators working largely on their own as freelancers can connect to a wider arts
education field in their local region and nationally. They can set their own practice into a context of the latest thinking,
opening up to national priorities, agendas and approaches. engage's CPD events and training widen and extend an individual's skills and let them bounce ideas off their peers.
Case studies and toolkits, and the issue-specific Journal editions, help the freelancer focus on techniques to use in particular
circumstances – invaluable when called on to move flexibly between different groups.
Training programmes such as Watch this Space and the International Summer School provide a perfect opportunity for freelancers
to develop their practice with fellow arts educators and to have experience to showcase on their CV.
engage offers subsidised and bursary placements to freelancers so they can attend the 3-day Annual International Conference– a great
opportunity to learn from inspiring professionals in a variety of roles and to enjoy the company of others working passionately in
the field of gallery education. Conference is the yearly refresher, and a chance to meet and catch up with colleagues from around the world.
