engaging with Diversity

engage's work on diversity addressing engage internally, engage's membership and the gallery education sector includes:
  • Creating a Diversity Strategy in 2003
  • Setting up a Diversity Working Group: engage's diversity working group was developed in May 2004 as part of engage's diversity strategy to act as a steering group enabling and guiding engage to ensure that diversity is at the heart of the organisation's aims and objectives and also to advise engage on the diversity of its membership, marketing, business planning and, more recently, on the three year diversity action plan. This is a continuously evolving group with new and old participants attending dependant on their particular areas of expertise. engage welcomes new participants at all meetings who feel they have something to contribute to the given discussion topic.   • Developing a Diversity Action Plan: engage's diversity action plan has been produced through consultation with the diversity working group, engage's council and engage staff. This plan has been partly driven by Arts Council requirements for 2006. engage's action plan is reflective and flexible and therefore something that will grow and develop over time. The starting point for this plan was to build on the work and networks that engage has already developed in relation to diversity and to continue to develop this work further. engage intends that this will continue and lead to increased activity, subject to funding, in order to promote a more diverse workforce for the whole sector.
