engaging with Diversity

engage's work on diversity addressing engage internally, engage's membership and the gallery education sector includes:

  • Creating a Diversity Strategy in 2003
  • From 2004-5 engage convened a Diversity Working Group, who acted as a steering group, advising engage around diversity and ensuring that diversity was embedded at the heart of the organisation’s aims and objectives.
  • Developing a Diversity Action Plan: engage's diversity action plan has been produced through consultation with the diversity working group, engage's council and engage staff. This plan has been partly driven by Arts Council requirements for 2006, and was updated and approved by engage’s Board of Trustees in 2009. engage's action plan is reflective and flexible and has therefore grown and developed over time. Two engage Trustees are now supporting staff with the delivery of the plan.

As intended, this led to increased activity. Programmes promoting work with diverse audiences include The Explore programme, Older people work in Wales and Everyone programme in Scotland. Workforce development programmes include Extend and Visual Roots.
