engage International Summer School
A peer-led professional development event for mid-career gallery education
professionals.
Summer School 2006
This year's Summer School was held in Porto, Portugal at the Fundação Serralves
Museum of Contemporary Art, 27 June - 2 July. The theme for 2006 was galleries
and museums as sites for critical enquiry: exploring visual arts, education and
community engagement. The programme is attached
here. Presentations and discussion reports will be available to download
from this page in due course.
Summer School 2004
engage ran its first ever international summer
school in August 2004 for around twenty practitioners. The event was hosted by
Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark and included presentations,
discussions and study visits to galleries in Copenhagen and Malmo. Following on
from the success of this event,
engage decided to
continue with this professional development opportunity for mid-career
professionals on an annual basis.
Summer School 2005
The second Summer School was held near Arona in Northern Italy during July 2005
and attracted twenty five participants from the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Germany
and Italy. The event was run over four days and included study visits to three
arts venues in Turin where participants learnt about the different types of
gallery education programmes being run. The event, kindly hosted by
engage member Marta Motterlini, involved all participants leading at
least one session, many in small groups.
The programme for the Summer School is attached
here.
