Children's Art Week 2018

We're delighted to announce that Children's Art Week 2018 will run from Saturday 9 - Sunday 17 June. We'll be releasing more information on registering events soon, so for now get the dates in your diaries and get planning! Engage members will be the first to receive news about Children's Art Week 2018, but if you are not a member and would like information about hosting or attending an event, you can sign up to the official Children's Art Week mailing list.

Children's Art Week 2017

Children’s Art Week 2017 ran from Saturday 10 until Sunday 18 June.

Children’s Art Week saw thousands of children, their teachers and their families descending on visual arts venues, schools, libraries and youth and community organisations across the UK, to be inspired, engaged and entertained by art.

Thank you to all of the wonderful venues across the country who have registered events, held in galleries, arts centres and museums, and at libraries, schools, heritage sites and community and youth centres, too.

Join in on Twitter @engagevisualart, Instagram @engagevisualart, and our Facebook page using the hashtag #ChildrensArtWeek

We were pleased to have the support of the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts (NADFAS), The Finnis Scott Foundation and the Garfield Weston Foundation. Engage receives support from Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Programme, project funding from the Arts Council of Wales and is an Annual Client of Creative Scotland.

About Children's Art Week

Children's Art Week is a UK-wide programme run by Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education. To encourage children, young people, families and teachers to engage with the visual arts, Engage invites schools, galleries, museums and community groups to register visual arts events for children and families during one week in the summer. Organisers receive support from Engage to devise, run and publicise their events, and are encouraged to invite artists to take part.

Previously known as Children’s Art Day, the programme has run since 2000. Events held throughout the UK over a week during the summer give children and young people the opportunity - with their teachers, parents and carers - to experience the visual arts and get involved with a very broad range of practical art activities with artists and makers. Organisers value the opportunity to be part of a national event and reach out to new visitors.

Participants have had the opportunity to take part in creative and varied events, including a riverside sketching expedition; creating sculptures inspired by Mondrian; making Roman armour from cardboard; experimenting with sunprint photography; taking part in an art challenge tombola, 3D printing and designing computer games amongst many others. Venues included galleries, museums, primary and secondary schools, community centres, country parks and children’s services.
