Children's Art Week

Save the Date for Children's Art Week 2019!

This year Children's Art Week will take place from Saturday 8 – Sunday 16 June, with the kind support of the Arts Society and The D'Oyly Carte Charitable Trust.

Registration opens Tuesday 23 April and closes 24 May 2019. To prepare your event information ahead of registration, download the Information Required for Registration (Word doc).

Registration is open for venues of all types and sizes — from libraries to community halls, heritage venues and country parks, schools and of course museums and galleries. Individual artists and makers can also register events.

For your event to be included as part of Children’s Art Week it must take place between Saturday 8 – Sunday 16 June 2018.

Why get involved?

Children’s Art Week is a fantastic opportunity to encourage families, children and young people to visit local venues and enjoy fun creative activities that they might not have tried before.

In 2018 more than 14,000 children, young people and adults took part in events across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Event organisers reported that 58% of participants attending their activity were first-time visitors to their venue, and 30% of participants were audiences who were completely new to the arts.

Is there any support available?

The first 40 venues / individual artists or makers to register events will receive £50 seed funding to support their event.

All registered events will receive resources to help plan and promote their activities, publicity support from a freelance PR Consultant appointed by Engage plus free Children’s Art Week stickers to hand out on the day.

About Children's Art Week

Children's Art Week is a UK-wide programme run by Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education.

Every year Engage invites schools, galleries, museums and community groups to devise and register visual arts events for children and families over a week in June. These activities give children and young people, together with their teachers, parents and carers, the opportunity to get involved with a very broad range of practical art activities with artists and makers.

Organisers receive support from Engage to devise, run and publicise their events. Through evaluation Engage has learned that Children’s Art Week is a valuable opportunity for venues to reach out to new visitors and take part in a national event.
