Civic role, public space

It is hard, in 2017, to ignore the imperative to create a synergy between civic role and public space. The burgeoning of new cultural buildings and architectural landmarks over the last three decades has been driven by economic and regeneration agendas as much as by cultural policy. Galleries and museums are committed to enhancing their civic role and making their buildings accessible to a wide audience, creating a truly public space that fosters open debate and social relations.

This, the fortieth issue of the Engage Journal explores this topic from different viewpoints through contributions from writers based in the UK, Greece and Australia.
