Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education wishes to recruit an Administration Officer to lead and support in the efficient running of memberships; support Engage training activities and research; provide logistical and administrative support for the Director and other staff; and to contribute to the effective daily running of the office and Engage projects. The role reports to the Operations Manager.

This is an opportunity to be part of a small team in a national visual arts education organisation. The Administration Officer plays a key role in the production of Engage’s annual conference (up to 250 delegates), administers international awards and assists with projects with a national remit.The postholder will have good communication skills and be highly numerate, with the ability to be proactive and a flexible team player. An efficient administrator, they will have experience of managing events, budgets, and IT. Experience administering a membership scheme and of working in the arts, education or the third sector would be advantageous.

Chair of Trustees

Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education, is seeking to appoint a new Chair of Trustees to take over from the current Chair, Lesley Butterworth, when she steps down in November 2018.

About Engage 
Engage is the lead professional association in the field of gallery education, with about 900 members in the UK and abroad. A registered charity and a company limited by guarantee, Engage is an Arts Council England Sector Support Organisation and receives funding from Creative Scotland, the Arts Council of Wales and from a number of trusts and foundations.

Role of the Chair
The new Chair will join a committed Board of Trustees that seeks to support the Director, staff team and members in developing the organisation. The role of the Chair is to:

  • Lead the Board, ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of Engage;
  • Act as an ambassador and spokesperson for Engage and assist in developing relationships with key stakeholders;
  • Work in partnership with the Director, helping her/him to achieve Engage’s aims;
  • Optimise the relationship between trustees and staff.

Terms of Appointment
Engage Trustees are appointed for a three-year period. A maximum of two terms of three years can be served. The time commitment required is typically 2 to 3 days per month for a six-year term. This is a voluntary position and is not remunerated however travel and when necessary accommodation expenses may be paid.

Trustees

Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education, is seeking new trustees to join our established and dedicated Board in November 2018. The Board currently has 15 members and meets quarterly.

We are interested in receiving applications from individuals who have expertise/practice in the following areas:

  • Digital and IT
  • Human Resources
  • Colleagues who are practising visual artists or artist with experience of education and participatory practice.

The roles and responsibilities of the Engage Board
The role of the Engage Board is to:

  • Ensure Engage functions within the legal and financial requirements of a company and charitable organisation;
  • Be responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of Engage;
  • Determine policy;
  • Agree the annual budget and decide on any major resource issues;
  • Approve the annual accounts;
  • Appoint senior staff;
  • Carry out the appraisals of senior staff;
  • Monitor performance against agreed objectives and targets;
  • Represent and promote Engage externally;
  • Assist in fundraising from the public and private sectors;
  • Observe the Memorandum and Articles of Association (Engage’s regulatory governing documents).

The Board includes members with special responsibilities and roles, the key roles being Chair, Vice-chairs, and Treasurer.
