Phase 3

2008-9


In phase 3 enquire worked through twelve projects with galleries or clusters of galleries and partner schools/youth groups and artists. Research to date was drawn on to develop capacity amongst galleries and partners to provide increasingly effective learning opportunities for children and young people, the demands of a changing curriculum and Find Your Talent. 


Each project focused on a particular issue or area of the curriculum which is relevant to their practice and local needs. These included investigating how galleries can support the delivery of the Diploma in Creative and Media or working with primary schools to develop ways to evaluate the personal development of pupils. Some galleries are also worked together to develop regional networks to share practice, create sustainable partnerships and jointly advocate their work.

East projects


Artist-led Exhibition Tours

Sainsbury Centre for the Visual Arts project

All school groups took part in an introductory tour of the permanent collection and SCVA guides worked with the artists before and during the sessions to contextualise the artefacts and activity.

Kings Lynn Art Centre project

Working in pairs, trainee artists planned, delivered and tuned workshops for children and adults based on current exhibitions at the Arts Centre.

Outpost project

Various artists led school groups around two different exhibitions at Outpost, followed by creative workshops at their respective schools.

Collaborative Projects

Artists undertook a training programme through the partner galleries during the Autumn term and planned and executed workshops with school children and students in the Spring term.

Phase 3 - Collaborative Projects

The cluster worked with Cardinal Pole School piloting the Diploma in Creative and Media to support the teacher and pupils in particular aspects of the course.

The cluster aimed to work with a school piloting the Diploma in Creative and Media to support the teacher and pupils in particular aspects of the course, including visiting and finding out about cultural institutions, working with an artist and exhibiting work.

Isis Networking Project

ISIS project

Isis continued to develop a network of galleries and partners interested in gallery education.


BALTIC in phase 3

BALTIC project

BALTIC aimed to nurture effective practice in the evaluation and evidencing of outcomes of first hand engagement with contemporary art. Baltic led a collaborative project with teachers and pupils from 7 non-visiting primary schools. 


North East Cluster Projects

The institutions, teachers and six gallery educators worked together to create a network of galleries and partners interested in gallery education, to develop an infrastructure to improve opportunities and delivery in this large rural county. 

 

North West (Liverpool) projects


FACT project

The partners involved in this project aimed to work with young people, trainee teachers, teachers and artists to encourage and develop new media opportunities for young people in schools, and to support teachers of art in developing the curriculum in this area.


North West (Manchester) projects


The Manchester Museum project

The project was intended to develop the Manchester Museum s offer with art and design teaching in secondary schools. It consisted of two artist residencies in the Museum, each incorporating a collaborative project with a school, and associated CPD. 


Re: Curate

The Manchester Museum project

Project Re: Curate involved students developing seven installations in the Egypt Gallery to illustrate their views about the exhibits and issues such as human remains debate and ask other visitors to consider their own views. The students' sketchbooks/journals were also on display.


What is it Not?

The Manchester Museum project

Project What Is It Not? involved two classes creating work about the interpretation of objects in a museum setting.

Turner Contemporary Project

The Kent Cluster developed a joint resource with an artist focusing on creative approaches to maths through pattern in art and nature.

Spacex project

In phase 3, Devon developed projects focusing on participant decision-making and democratic learning.

Project focusing on participant decision-making and democratic learning.


Collaborative Projects

The aim was to extend the SW cluster, for galleries to deliver projects with secondary schools and develop the gallery education infra-structure in this rural county.

The gallery developed a range of projects with local schools and groups designed to develop independent decision-making and democratic learning.

 

North West projects


Collaborative Projects

Those involved in this group of institutions aimed to join with other regional galleries to build and promote support for teachers in incorporating contemporary art into their teaching.

 

Cambridge projects


Collaborative Projects

The cluster developed and explored the potential of links between 3 visual arts organisations in and around Cambridge through collaborative projects. 


Quad, Derby projects


Viewing and Interpreting Exhibitions

Collaborative Projects

Quad, in its new venue, worked with Creative Partnerships and The Derby Museum and Art Gallery to encourage participating schoolchildren to examine the ways in which they view, interpret and reflect on art works and exhibitions.

 

Solent projects


Collaborative Projects

The cluster created a network of artists, teachers and gallery educators with a common understanding and terms of reference through shared experience and problem-solving.


Cluster CPD and Network-Building

The Cluster, building on Quay Arts and Aspex's history with enquire, has developed a strong skills-sharing network with a number of new partners. This has resulted in a number of gallery-based projects tailored to participants' individual needs and levels of engagement.
