Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Network Conference

14 October 2017

One Day Seminar/Conference

Study Mode

Communicate, create and share

This conference explores creative approaches to interpreting museums, galleries, and heritage sites for visitors with special educational needs and disabilities.

Suitable for: Museum and Heritage practitioners and SEND Teachers

Location: Clore Learning Centre, Museum of London

The keynote speech will be given by Head of Learning at Camden Arts Centre, Gemma Wright. Camden Art Centre’s education programme remains at the core of the organisation’s aim to make art inclusive and accessible for all. For the last 15 years the gallery has led an SEN schools project, in collaboration with artists, young people and teachers which aims to increase creative opportunities within the arts for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities.

Delegates will attend three practical and interactive workshops, giving them the opportunity to consider different approaches, techniques, and resources that can be used in their own settings.

Each workshop/presentation will have a different creative focus:

Enhance your storytelling skills through rhythm and role, rhyme, repetition and ritual with Speech and language therapist, Louise Coigley from Lis’n Tell
Use audio descriptive techniques to increase access to arts and cultural events for SEND visitors with Anne Hornsby from Mind’s Eye
Explore the rationale and mechanics of multi-sensory teaching for pupils with PMLD with Paul Morrow, Lead Practitioner of the Creative Arts, Westminster Special Schools

Once you have booked your ticket you will receive a detailed schedule. This conference at the Museum of London is generously supported by Lord Leonard and Lady Estelle Wolfson.
