PATERN REGIONAL CONFERENCE Becoming an Effective and Confident Primary Visual Arts Coordinator

Join the newly active and influential PATERN (Primary Art Teacher Educator Regional Network) at The Customs House for an exciting full day Primary Art, Craft and Design Focused CPD Conference. Supported by leading visual arts educationalists and practitioners you will leave with new ideas, energy and inspiration. Develop your confidence that your school can deliver a meaningful and challenging Visual Art, Craft and Design Curriculum benefiting all your learners. Learn how to standardise the art curriculum within your school and become more confident with progression and assessment. Sessions will be confirmed nearer the time but will include a selection from ‘Creative and Cultural Industries’, ‘Creativity vs Robots’, ‘Art Craft and Design for All: SEND’, ‘Boys Arts Craft and Design’, ‘Confidence Motivation and Wellbeing’, ‘Creative Curriculum Design’ and ‘Primary art Assessment & Progression’.

Confirmed contributors include:
Susan Coles
Past president of NSEAD (National Society for Education in Art and Design), member of NSEAD Council, founder of NEATEN (North East Art Teacher Educator Network) and PATERN, and secretary to the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Art, Craft and Design in Education, a cross-party group which meets in Parliament to inform and influence policy makers from all political parties. Susan is also a visiting lecturer on the Art and Design PGCE at Northumbria University, and at other universities such as Birmingham City University, University of the Arts Norwich. Susan is currently representing Europe as a member of the World Council of InSEA (International Society for Education through Art) and presents at Conferences nationally and internationally. Susan is also an Associate for the Big Draw, a school governor, and also works on the national NPQH Headteacher training programme. Susan is a self-employed and independent educator, critical friend, advisor, consultant and artist.

Paul Carney
Nationally recognised art consultant having delivered specialist art INSET CPD in schools across the UK and for the UK’s leading training providers. He is a board member for the NSEAD and runs his highly successful art website; paulcarneyarts.com which provides high quality teaching resources and advice to teachers around the world. He has twenty years teaching experience at Primary, Secondary and post-16 levels of education, is an Advanced Skills Teacher, ex-Subject Leader and was a member of the DfE Expert Advisory Group for Art and Design. In addition to this he was a member of the NSEAD Curriculum Writing Group that wrote the art curriculum competencies, more formally called the: ‘Framework for Progression, Planning for Learning, Assessment, Recording and Reporting 2014’.
