Engage North East Area Group Meeting

Monday 5 March 2018, 4pm to 6pm
Hatton Gallery, Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne

Engage members and regional colleagues are invited to a North East Area Group Meeting at the Hatton Gallery, Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, on Monday 5 March 2018. This meeting is open to everyone involved in gallery, museum and arts education in the North East, including artists, gallery staff, students, freelance practitioners, arts organisations and teachers.*

The meeting will be held at the Hatton Gallery which is now open following a £3.8 million redevelopment project which involved conserving the historic and architectural elements of the Grade II listed building while creating a modern exhibition space. A new dedicated multi-purpose learning space allows students, community groups and researchers to engage with collections and archive material.

Speakers include:
Hazel Baron-Cooper, Learning Officer at the Hatton Gallery, Newcastle University, managed by Tyne Wear Archives and Museums. Hazel is responsible for Learning and Engagement in the gallery and programmes, workshops, courses and events for school groups, adults, mental health groups, home educated, refugees and many more diverse audiences.

Kate Liston, artist, will speak about her new commission Feel After the New See which is the first in a series of annual site-specific projects responding to the unique architecture and remarkable history of the Hatton Gallery, as well as its pivotal role in international innovations in exhibition design and installation art.

Talks will finish by 5pm and be followed by time for informal networking and refreshments at Northern Stage.

The meeting is an opportunity for all colleagues working in galleries, museums and education to catch up, network and help plan future events in the North East.
