Agency, equity and striving for an inclusive practice

Engage members and regional colleagues are invited to join London Reps for an Area Group Meeting exploring multiple perspectives for an inclusive practice at the Barbican Centre on Friday 4 May, 10:00am – 1:00pm.

Following this year’s Engage conference theme of diversity in its widest sense, this session will explore case studies from learning professionals who are striving to achieve a more inclusive practice through involving people. Speakers will introduce their experience of working with different communities to develop their programming and exhibitions, and share practical tips for how advocate internally for involving people and representing multiple voices.

Rachel Craddock will introduce the Young Producers programme and building agency at the National Gallery and Emily Druiff will talk about involving communities to reactivate the archive in the Southwark Education Research Project Reactivated at Peckham Platform. Chris Webb will give an insight into the process of working with stakeholders to develop the current exhibition and associated programme at the Barbican Art Gallery for ‘Another Kind of Life Photography on the Margins’, and participants will have an opportunity to view the exhibition.

The session will include presentations, discussion, networking and time to view the exhibition. The meeting is an opportunity for all colleagues working in galleries, museums and education to catch up, network and help plan future events in the London.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Teresa Cisneros will introduce the Object Positions project at The Showroom gallery and explore ideas of equity, agency and conversation in practice.
